
Gina Trethewey Miller
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Hayward, California and moved to Napa when I was 4 years old.
What were your dreams as a child?
I wanted to be a nurse. I received my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license and worked in a nursing home when I was in high school.
Where were you educated?
I attended West Park and Northwood Elementary schools, Redwood Middle School and Napa High School. Upon graduation, I went to Napa Valley College and studied in the Child and Family Studies program. I later received my Montessori credential from Montessori World Educational Institute.
How did you learn about the Montessori philosophy?
I answered an advertisement looking for a Toddler teacher at The Montessori Family Center (now Sun and Stars) in St. Helena. Very quickly I realized that Montessori was for me!
How long have you worked at Sunrise?
I have worked at Sunrise for 19 years.
Which age groups have you worked with at Sunrise?
I have worked with toddler, preschool and kindergarten children.
Where else have you worked?
I have worked at Vallergas, in a lawyer’s office, at Crown Realty and at the Montessori Family Center, St. Helena.
What excites you about the Montessori philosophy?
I love being involved with the community and the whole family.
What is the essence of the Montessori philosophy for you?
I love empowering the child towards independence. I love teaching respect and peace and working as a guide alongside the whole family.
What do you love to do outside of school?
I love to go hiking and to garden. I adore quiet time in the mountains. I love to socialize with friends and family.
