Where did you grow up?
I was born in San Francisco and lived there until I was 11 years old. We moved to Napa because my parents wanted my sister and I to live in a safer and smaller community..
What were your dreams as a child?
I was always interested in children and education. I observed some different programs to get a feel for them. I was also interested in special needs children.
Where were you educated?
I went to elementary school in San Francisco and then Napa High School when we moved to Napa. After high school I attended Napa Valley College in the Child and Family Studies program and later received my Montessori training in Dallas, Texas.
How did you learn about the Montessori philosophy?
I took a class at the Napa Valley College in Piaget and Montessori; I fell in love with the philosophy.
How long have you worked at Sunrise?
I have worked at Sunrise for 38 years.
Which age groups have you worked with at Sunrise?
I have worked with preschool and kindergarten children.
Where else have you worked?
In high school I volunteered at Vichy Elementary School and at the Napa State Hospital. I worked as an assistant at “A Place of My Own”, a preschool and childcare facility.
What excites you about the Montessori philosophy?
I love that I get to teach children in a fun and creative way. I love seeing the joy on the children’s faces – you never get tired of that!
What is the essence of the Montessori philosophy for you?
The Montessori philosophy cares for all people equally. All people are respected culturally in a very accepting way. Everyone is accepted no matter where they are from and what their beliefs are.
What do you love to do outside of school?
I love to bake. I love to socialize with my friends and to visit elderly friends. I love to read and visit museums and I adore going to musicals.
