Where did you grow up?
I was born on the island of San Miguel, in the city of Ponta Delgado, part of the archipelago of the Azores, Portugal. At 15 years old most of my family emigrated to the California, my mother, my father and 7 of my siblings.
What were your dreams as a child?
I wanted to be like my mother, get married and have a family!
Where were you educated?
I attended St. Helena High School. Later I studied at Santa Rosa Community College and Napa Valley Community College.
How did you learn about the Montessori philosophy?
I got married in 1976 and stayed home to raise my 3 children for a time. When it was time for school I sent them to Casa Montessori in Napa (since closed) and later joined them as an assistant teacher. I fell in love with the Montessori philosophy.

I have worked at Sunrise for 17 years.

I have worked with all the age groups.
Where else have you worked?
I worked in food service at the Veterans Home in Yountville.
What excites you about the Montessori philosophy?
I am excited by the Montessori philosophy; it becomes a way of life.
What is the essence of the Montessori philosophy for you?
The essence of the philosophy for me is the respect and kindness shown to every child.
What do you love to do outside of school?
I love to cook and garden at home. I love hiking and camping in the woods.
